Movement On The Ag Sales Tax Exemptions
The Florida Farm Bureau and other agricultural associations have been trying to push through proposed sales tax exemptions for electricity, low-volume irrigation equipment and materials used for farm buildings and fences.
Although the House has previously supported enacting the low-volume irrigation equipment exemption for one year, an agreement has now been reached with the Senate to favor the electricity sales tax exemption. If adequate funds are available, both exemptions may pass.
Of course, this scenario may change during budget negotiations. Farm Bureau will continue to support these exemptions as they are addressed in the budget conference. House Bill 1199 by Representative Nelson relates to sales tax exemption on ag electricity. This is a clean-up bill on last year’s ag electricity bill. Senate Bill 1416 by Senator Atwater is the companion bill to Nelson’s ag electricity bill.
